Executive Profiles

Michael Mistal. The supply chain exec charted his unique career history and journey to GovCon as a new Potomac Officers Club member.

Member Profile: Michael Mistal

Michael Mistal’s career has centered around supply chain, working for logistics companies like Warehowz and BlueGrace, but he came into the federal consulting space when he joined Deloitte in 2022 as a supply chain and network operations consultant. As of September, Mistal is director of business development for Blue Yonder Defense Solutions, an AI-powered logistics organization.

We spoke with Mistal, who recently joined POC, about his life, unique background and career trajectory.

Potomac Officers Club: How would you advise someone entering the GovCon industry to build their resume and advance their careers to be in the best position in the years to come?

Michael Mistal: A well-crafted resume offers meaningful insight into a candidate’s background, experience and achievements. I consistently encourage colleagues to emphasize quantifiable outcomes that demonstrate the impact of their work. For example: How did you contribute to revenue growth or cost savings? What processes did you improve or streamline? In what ways did you demonstrate effective leadership? In my experience, framing the resume to highlight results and measurable success tends to produce the most favorable outcomes.

POC: When did you decide to pursue a career in the federal landscape and what were the key tasks that you wanted to complete? Any bigger goals you still want to accomplish?

Mistal: I relocated to Washington, D.C. in 2022 to pursue a career with Deloitte, transitioning from my previous role as a full-cycle supply chain technology sales executive based in Richmond, Virginia. Originally from Rochester, New York, I often remark—half-jokingly—that I hail from the two most powerful states on the East Coast: New York and Virginia. It’s a sentiment that occasionally sparks healthy debate, in a bar, especially in casual conversations with those from places like Georgia or Massachusetts.

Before 2022, I wouldn’t have envisioned myself working in the federal space. Today, I’m proud to serve as director of business development for Blue Yonder Defense Solutions, where I have the opportunity to live and work in our nation’s capital, delivering best-in-class software solutions in support of the warfighter.

Looking ahead, key personal life goals include marriage and starting a family.

POC: How would you describe your management style and core values towards building a winning culture?

Mistal: My management philosophy is anchored in leading by example and fostering a culture of continuous improvement. I empower team members to achieve their full potential, both professionally and personally. My approach is to prioritize deep understanding of client needs before strategic execution, always striving for perfection while delivering excellence.
