Andrew Baczewski

Distinguished Member of Technical Staff

Sandia National Laboratory

Andrew Baczewski is a distinguished scientist in the Center for Computing Research at Sandia National Laboratories. He co-founded and co-directs the Quantum Algorithms and Applications Collaboratory (QuAAC) – a group of 30+ scientists focused on understanding the nature of quantum computational advantage and how it might be used in science and engineering applications. Dr. Baczewski’s technical background is in computational physics and he has worked in areas ranging from low-observable technology, to fusion diagnostics, to many areas of quantum information science. In quantum computing, he has contributed to the development of several semiconductor spin qubit platforms, new methods in quantum simulation, and techniques for benchmarking quantum computers. Since 2018, he has led a group of Sandia scientists developing increasingly credible applications for quantum computers in stockpile stewardship. Andrew got his doctorate in physics and electrical engineering at Michigan State University in 2013, after which he took a postdoctoral position at Sandia, where he has been ever since.
