Native of Redlands, California. Commissioned in 1971 via Naval ROTC program at University of Colorado.
Awarded BA Political Science from University of Colorado; MS Electrical Engineering (Communications) from Naval
Postgraduate School; Executive Development Program certificate from Cornell University; and a graduate of the Defense
Systems Management College.
Upon commissioning served 14 years as Surface Warfare Officer in communications and operations officer positions
afloat (including combat operations in Vietnam); operational staff positions at the theater, fleet, carrier battle group and
destroyer squadron levels; and overseas tours stationed or homeported in Japan, UK and Italy.
Transferred to Engineering Duty Officer community in 1985 with assignments at:
