BigBear.ai

Dr. Dan Taninecz Miller directs natural language and large language model development at Bigbear.ai. As a principal investigator at BigBear.ai he works to tailor neural networks for error intolerant Federal and commercial use cases. He also acts as chief of research and experimentation for Dominate, BigBear.ai’s information environment and information operations platform. Prior to BigBear.ai, he served as a Principal Investigator for DARPA, supervising AI/ML R&D for a team of scientists and engineers conducting DNS and peer to peer botnet detection. These efforts produced hundreds of millions of novel botnet detections, and Dan’s team was among the first in the world to use natural language models to identify malign advanced persistent threat malware actors at internet-scale.

Dan’s doctoral research at the University of Washington focused on using NLP algorithms to examine text data related to Chinese foreign investment policy, online extremism, and election disinformation. His publications include “Topics and Emotions in Russian Twitter Propaganda" (First Monday, 2019), “Characterizing QAnon: Analysis of YouTube Comments Presents New Conclusions About a Popular Conservative Conspiracy” (First Monday, 2021), “The China Pakistan Economic Corridor: Indicator of Chinese Strategic Energy Goals and a Challenge to the Open Procurement Status Quo” (Jackson School of International Studies, University of Washington, 2017), and “The Shanghai Cooperation Organization and the People's Republic of China: Security Function Growth is Occurring along Anti-Terrorism Lines” (Jackson School of International Studies, University of Washington, 2014).
