Jared Newton is a Senior Solutions Architect for Planet’s Space Business Group, where he leads strategic planning and capture for space systems technology, as well as advances mission concepts that merge remote sensing, artificial intelligence, predictive analytics, and space-based communications. In this role, he leads the alignment of Planet’s next-generation technology with U.S. government needs, as well as oversees space business capture activities across the USG and select international partners.
Jared joined Planet after a distinguished 22-year career in the federal government. He previously served as a Technical Executive for the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency’s (NGA) Commercial Operations Group, where he spearheaded data integration initiatives and shaped NGA’s commercial technology strategy. During his tenure at NGA, he was a primary contributor to the Commercial Remote Sensing Working Group, providing counsel on the national security implications of private remote sensing systems and leading studies that resulted in a 70% reduction in regulatory burdens for the industry. His work at NGA also included substantial contributions to NGA’s Automation, AI, and Augmentation (AAA) Strategy, the Commercial Analytic Services Concept of Operations, and the joint NGA/NRO Cybersecurity strategy.
An Army veteran, Jared holds a Master of Arts in Intelligence Studies from American Military University. He is a recipient of the Director of National Intelligence Award for Collaboration Leadership and the Army Superior Civilian Service Award. Jared lives in Fredericksburg, Virginia, but originally hails from Bells, TN.
