Gen. John. D Lamontagne is the Vice Chief of Staff of the United States Air Force, the Pentagon, Arlington, Virginia. As Vice Chief, he oversees the Air Staff and serves as a member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Requirements Oversight Council and Deputy Advisory Working Group. He assists the Chief of Staff with organizing, training and equipping approximately 665,000 active-duty, Guard, Reserve and civilian forces serving in the United States and overseas. He ensures the United States Air Force is ready to execute its five core missions: air superiority; intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance; rapid global mobility; global strike; and command and control.

Gen. Lamontagne commissioned in 1992 from the United States Air Force Academy and earned his pilot wings in 1993 from Reese Air Force Base, Texas. He has commanded an airlift squadron, operations group, wing, Air Operations Center, major command, and held various staff assignments including Deputy Director, Joint Staff J-5 and Chief of Staff, U.S. European Command.

Gen. Lamontagne is a command pilot with more than 4,000 hours in multiple aircraft, primarily the KC-135R and C-17A, and has flown combat missions in various operations to include Enduring Freedom, Inherent Resolve and Freedom’s Sentinel.
