Maj Gen Mark W. Mitchum is the Special Assistant to the Chief of Staff of the Air Force (CSAF) for Integrated Capabilities, the Pentagon, Arlington, Virginia. He leads a staff of military and civilians to develop integrated capability requirements, competitive operational concepts and modernization plans, to prepare the Air Force to compete, deter and, if necessary, prevail against future adversaries.

Maj Gen Mitchum was born in Michigan and graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy in 1996 with a Bachelor of Science in Aeronautical Engineering. He attended Euro-NATO Joint Jet Pilot Training at Sheppard Air Force Base, Texas, and is a command pilot with more than 1,800 hours in a variety of fighter aircraft. Maj Gen Mitchum has held numerous operational, command and leadership positions across the United States Air Force, National Guard Bureau and the Joint Staff.

Prior to his current position, Maj Gen Mitchum was the Deputy Director of Programs, Deputy Chief of Staff for Plans and Programs, Headquarters U.S. Air Force, the Pentagon, Arlington, Virginia.
