Samuel Sutton is the Director of Space Systems Architecture at SES Space & Defense, part of one of the world’s leading operators of geostationary (GEO) and medium Earth orbit (MEO) satellite systems. With more than 20 years of experience, Sutton has served as both a technical and program leader across satellite development and operations for the U.S. Department of Defense, NASA, and commercial customers.
He currently serves as Product Manager for SES Space & Defense commercial LEO Relay Service to provide satellite to satellite communications, leading its development and market introduction planned for 2026. Previously, Sutton was the Program Manager for the SES-18 and SES-19 C-band satellites, a critical initiative to clear spectrum for 5G services, where he led spacecraft design, production, testing, and launch.
Sutton has a proven track record of delivering on orbit more than ten large telecommunications, Earth observation, and science spacecraft for a diverse set of domestic and international organizations. In his current role, he is shaping SES’s future GEO fleet strategy, advancing MEO constellation architectures, and developing innovative solutions for U.S. defense customers.
He holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Denver and an M.S. in Space Systems Engineering from the Stevens Institute of Technology.
